Get matched with one licensed electrician

Free for homeowners. We send your request to one independent, state-licensed electrician who serves your area — not a crowd of callers.

How it works

1. Estimate your cost

Use the calculator to see a realistic range for your setup: outlet or hardwired, wire distance, and panel capacity.

2. Send one request

Tell us your ZIP code and job. We pass it to one electrician whose state license we check before they can receive requests.

3. Get a firm quote

The electrician contacts you, looks at your panel and garage, and gives you a written price. You decide, with no obligation.

What drives the price of a home charger install

Outlet vs. hardwired

A NEMA 14-50 outlet suits plug-in chargers and is usually the cheaper job. Hardwired units such as wall connectors can deliver up to 48 amps and need a slightly larger circuit.

Distance from your panel

Every extra foot of heavy-gauge copper wire and conduit adds cost. A charger on the other side of the house costs more than one beside the panel.

Panel capacity

A 40–60 amp circuit needs room in your panel. Older 100A panels may need a load calculation, a load-management device, a subpanel or a full service upgrade.

Permit and inspection

Permit fees vary by city. Your electrician usually handles the paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install a Level 2 EV charger at home?

EnergySage reports a U.S. average of $2,442 for installation (2026 Qmerit data, excluding the charger itself), with most jobs between $800 and $3,000. The biggest swing factors are the distance from your panel and whether the panel needs an upgrade.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger?

Most U.S. cities require an electrical permit for a new 240V circuit. A licensed electrician normally pulls the permit and schedules the inspection.

Is the federal EV charger tax credit still available?

No. The IRS says the 30C credit applies to property placed in service through June 30, 2026, so home chargers installed after that date do not qualify. Some utilities still offer their own rebates.

Who installs the charger?

An independent electrician licensed in your state. Level2Pro is a referral service: we do not perform electrical work, and the electrician sets the price and contract with you directly.
